In case of an accidental spill…
1. Flip your Mac notebook over, allowing the liquid to drip away from the logic board and off of the computer.
2. Pull the power cord. Disable any power coming into the computer.
3. If you have a removable battery, take out the battery to shut down your computer.
OR, If you do not have a removable battery, hold down the power button to shut down your computer.
4. Immediately bring your Mac notebook to MacSource. For $90 we will take apart your computer to let it air dry, and diagnose any damage.
OR Place your computer in a bin of rice for a week. This will help pull out moisture, but will not fix any damage. Make sure your computer is off for the entire week. Do not turn your computer on to check on it as there may still be moisture within the computer.
Protect your Mac Notebook…
Want to protect your Mac Notebook from spills? We recommend a thin silicon plastic cover called a KB Cover. You can find these in Bozeman at the MSU Bookstore, or online at Amazon.com. Search “KB Cover” under “Electronics.” KB Covers are usually less than $15.
If you spill liquid on top of your KB Cover we still recommend following the 4 steps above. Letting liquid sit on top of your KB cover can still cause damage as it can seep through around the edges. KB Covers are easy to clean with warm soapy water. Be sure to let the KB Cover fully air dry so you don’t bring moisture to your computer.
